Behind the scenes of the manufacturing workshops

Today, we are opening the doors of our main workshop to introduce you to the team that makes Caramel & cie school bags and backpacks.

Next stop, China, where we work with our partner Matthieu. He owns an independent production workshop in Guangzhou, where he trains and employs seamstresses and artisans. After visiting numerous factories, we chose to work with Matthieu because he has implemented a people-centered management policy with fair wages and working conditions, unlike many large Chinese garment factories.

All of our production is handcrafted, meaning that our school bags are handmade, the fabrics are cut with scissors or a cutter for the imitation leather parts, sewn by machine and finished by hand.

Binyang cuts the inserts by hand and manages all the material cutting.

Kangsheng specializes in automated machines. He manufactures the molds and inputs the stitching data. He then assembles parts with unusual shapes that are not suitable for sewing on a "traditional" machine.

Our printed fabrics are hand-screen-printed, meter by meter.

Guiting handles the gluing of the parts. This step involves manually assembling the parts together or making the folds in the materials.

They then undergo a demanding quality control, where each schoolbag is checked according to a very precise set of specifications.

Huajiao is in charge of quality control. She tracks down even the smallest imperfections.

Choosing a Caramel & cie schoolbag or backpack is making a responsible choice.
