The children's industry: a poor performer in sustainable development!
The fashion industry, including the children's fashion industry, is among the least eco-responsible:
• 60% of clothes end up in the trash in the first year.
• The average lifespan of a toy is 6 months
• 80% of toys end up as waste each year.
Fast fashion, offshoring of production, difficulty in recycling, the cost of labor, ... these are all challenges that few brands dare to take on. Yet we have a responsibility towards our first users: children!
At Caramel & cie, we rolled up our sleeves and decided to make a difference. On our own scale (at first!). We started small, 6 years ago with fair trade production; then by making sturdier school bags that last longer; then we set up a free repair program and finally we switched to recycled polyester .
Today we are working to reduce our carbon footprint and, above all, we are embarking on a ambitious program to collect our used and unused school bags in order to recycle them and give them a second life.
By participating in this initiative, which is expected to grow, You will be helping to protect the planet for our children.
So how does it actually work?
You bring it back, we recycle it.
Bring back your unused or worn Caramel & cie school bags and we'll give them a second life (depending on their condition):
• By repairing them
Once repaired, the school bags are resold to benefit associations related to children and the planet.
• By dismantling them
Once disassembled, the materials that can be recycled (this represents approximately 80% of our school bags) will be recycled or reused in new eco-designed products, which will be featured in specific collections.
All proceeds from the resale of repaired school bags will go to charities and proceeds from eco-designed collections will go towards funding this program.
